This page is dedicated to the wonderful families who have found and adopted either a Melar Basenji or a Basenji we rescued & fostered.

My first encounter with a Basenji was 6 years ago when I adopted a brindle female mix. In instantly
fell in love with her and discovered why "you can't have just one" Basenji. It was evident my female
needed a playmate and someone that would understand her. I wanted a brindle male to complete
my Basenji "set". I searched the local rescues, I searched the BRAT site regularly to no avail. Then
I came across a story about a Basenji rescue of over 100 animals from a Kansas City Breeder.
There I found a picture of "Bo" who was being fostered in Nebraska. From the first moment I saw
him, I knew he was the one.

As you can see from the above photo, he was in dire need of a lot of love and care. This love
and care started with Melody of Melar Basenjis and then traveled to Tulsa, OK where Bo, now
known as Bandit, lives with his forever family.
Today, Bandit is happy and healthy. He has a large yard to run and chase bunnies, squirrels
and birds. He has a Basenji "sister" to do the B500 with and a human family that loves him.
Bandit is truly a rescue success story and proves that love and patience conquers all.
Thanks Melody for providing the missing link to our family!

Name: EKO (pronounced: Echo) (Formally known as "Tut")
Nicknames: Tut; Tutty-Butt, Ekee; Cookie Monster
Two years ago, Deanne and I decided to adopt a companion for our little beagle, Macy.
After researching dog breeds, Basenjis caught our attention for being an active and quiet
breed. After searcing for a while, we found Eko and adopted him. I couldn't ask for a better
addition to our family! To give you better idea of Eko's personality, below are a few of his
likes and dislikes:
Likes: Sunbathing; Very Long Walks; Running free at the dog park; Greenies and stealing
food from our dinner plates; Rolling on wet bath towels; Baroooing with the fire barn siren;
and sleeping in late with me.
Dislikes: RAIN! Snow; Veterinarian appointments, being kenneled in the hallway during
work hours or at the vet when we're on vacation; his "Gentle Leader" and Macy
antagonizing him to wrestle.
In general, Eko brings so much entertainment to our home. Best dog I've ever owned and
he has the title as being "My Little Buddy". This will be a Basenji Home forever!
The winter helped Nike decide to quit bolting for the door. Yesterday he got a chewey for a
treat in the yard. Radar sat on the deck chewing one and Mac, the younger GSD, had one
out in the yard too. Mike would not relax and lay down to chew, he remained "standing
guard". I thought it odd until Mac took advantage of Nike losing concentration and he tried
to steal Nike's chewey. Nike turned and wacked Mac. They tusseled for a second or two but
Mac decided that was not very fun so he went back to chewing his own chewey. As you
might imagine, it was all sound and no actual fighting. Both were fine except for some
slobber.
He is always on the move and never sits still for a good photo. And yes, he still sleeps with
Dakota. Dakota is his boy and Nike is Dakota's dog. They are rarely apart.

Chloe is from my own breeding (Talon & Firbi). She lives with a wonderful family in
Lincoln, NE. She has two children to play with, ages 4 & 5 (to date). I'm told that she is
"the life of the party"...Vocally expressive when she wants something and of course,
does NOT like rain!
