Basenji Health
In Memory
I began showing dogs in 1999 with my doberman, Kalora's Latin Lover, aka Miguel. I learned quickly that
showing dobermans can be exhausting and very frustrating. So, I began my search for a breed that I could
successfully owner/handle. Now mind you, I've never been a "small dog" person however there was
something about the Basenji that intrigued me. Their look was just the surface from which I began to "dig".

I found treasure! A treasure that originated in the depths of the African jungles.

What do I like most about the Basenji? I'm not sure I can answer that in a simple form. It is for these many
reasons that some do not care for Basenjis. They are a very intelligent breed...but not necessarily obedient.
Their intelligence is purely self-serving.  Barkless? Okay. But mute? Ever hear a 2-year-old scream? I mean
temper tantrum, blood curdling scream? Yep...your neighbors will hear it too!!  They can be downright
naughty, if that's the way you choose to define it. As challenging as they may be, I am personally delightfully
entertained by the antics of the Basenji.
Heather Ervin, of Echelon Basenjis, became my good friend months before
the birth of my wild child, CH Echelon Noble Eagle of Melar; affectionately
known as Talon. Heather's knowledge of the Basenji has proven invaluable to
me. The strength of this friendship will become the foundation of what we
hope to be a successful breeding program of healthy, sound Basenjis for the
home and the show ring.
